Considering selling your home? If so, it’s a tough market out there are probably not the words that you want to hear. As we all know up until recently houses were selling like crazy. Anyone who wanted to sell their house simply put it up for sale and the house sold. Well, not anymore!
There is a good side however. Hopefully, that will put you in a better mood and here’s why. Nobody’s house is selling. Now I know what you are thinking, “Scott, you said that there was a good side to all of this.” Well, there is and here it is. Some houses are selling just not very many, so if you can get your house to stand out from the rest odds are you will sell your house fast.
Recently I met this couple that thought that they had tried everything to sell their home. Even by today’s standards their home was on the market for a really long time. They were just about to give up when a friend of theirs who just happened to be an interior decorator stopped by.
They got to talking and asked her what she thought was wrong with their home, why it wasn’t selling. Her reply to them was something like this, “although you have a good home, with rooms flowing nicely, plenty of space and you are in a very desirable neighborhood,” several home had sold recently right on that very block, “your buyers cannot see past the décor.”
As they began to talk some more she began to show them what she meant. The den had a very old carpet, installed in the 80’s and it was chocked full of exercise equipment. Although the kitchen cabinets were old, they were in desperate need of a fresh coat of paint and there were several rooms with really outdated wallpaper. In short, no potential buyer could see themselves living in the house, at least the way it was decorated.
What happened next was very interesting, the decorator friend helped this couple change a few things in the décor and the house sold in two weeks.
Do you have a home that you are trying to sell, but potential buyers just don’t seem interested? If so here is what you need to do to sell your house fast,
Make sure your home is clean and uncluttered – when a home is cluttered, buyers are unable to see the true potential of the room. Clutter makes a room look smaller and just as with this couple, as soon as they cleared the exercise equipment from the den, buyers were able to appreciate the room.
Use neutral colors – You may like red walls with blue trim, but odds are that your buyers may not. Neutral colors allow a buyer to see the room as it really is and are not distracted by color. This includes getting rid of outdated wall paper as well.
Use the right amount of furniture – Not only do you not want to have too much furniture, but you don’t want to little either. Also, make sure that you have the correct furniture for the room. The idea is to have buyers able to see themselves living in the home. If you don’t have the right furniture don’t, worry, home staging companies rent furniture for just these situations.
Selling a home is not easy, especially in today’s market and being able to sell your house fast is even more of a challenge. It’s not easy to have buyer after buyer come through your home and leave uninterested. You need to have your home stand out from the rest and just a couple of simple changes here and there will make that happen.

Good practical advice, as usual.
Nothing profound´s last blog ..
Dear Scott,
This was timely advice, for sure! We’re going to be putting our house on the market soon, and I was just thinking how we were going to get rid of the 80s wallpaper in the kitchen.

I like this advice Scott. I watch a lot of those House Hunter type shows on TV and they all say the same thing.
