Did you ever notice that some homes that no matter what time of the day are always immaculate. There never seems to be any clutter, pillows are always perfectly in place, there are no clothes on the floor and nothing is ever out of place. You drop in on these people unexpectedly and their home is always clean as a whistle.
You wonder in amazement how they do it. And when you take a moment to consider all that there is to do when it comes to cleaning and maintaining a home you become even more perplexed. There is dusting, vacuuming and cleaning the floor along with a bunch of other stuff.
I have one such type of client. No matter what time of the day whenever I go into her home, it’s always perfect. Counter tops and the kitchen table are always uncluttered, floors are clean and clutter free and there is never a speck of dust anywhere to be seen. And this client has a husband, three kids and a dog.
On the other hand, I have another client whose home is always a disaster. She is the nicest woman, but even after she cleans you would barely know it. She is just the opposite of the first client. Her home always looks like a tornado just struck.
The kitchen counters are always cluttered with dishes, the floors are always cluttered with junk and I have even noticed quite a bit of dust on the furniture.
Oh, and one more thing that I forgot to tell you is that the first woman works all day and has told me that she spends very little time cleaning while the second woman, who also works a full time job spends one entire day cleaning on the weekend.
Why is one client’s house always perfect regardless of the time of day, while the other one’s house, no matter how hard she tries always disorganized and chaotic?
The difference lies in their housekeeping techniques.
Would you like to have a picture perfect, well maintained home? Just like my client in the first example?
One day I asked her how she did it and here are a couple of the tricks to maintaining the perfectly clean home that she gave me.
Clean every day – I know this sounds crazy, but instead of spending an entire Saturday cleaning your home, cleaning several minutes every day especially if it is just before everyone goes to bed will keep your home cleaner and always looking its best.
Establish a routine – Let’s face it, some things you just are not going to want to do on a daily basis. Maybe you set up a routine where you damp mop your kitchen floor every other night and you use the other nights to wipe down the counters in the kitchen and bath, but you save the vacuuming for Saturdays.
Live as a minimalist – the less that you have the less that needs to be organized. Making certain that things are always kept put away will mean that you have one thing less to do on a daily basis.
Keeping your home always looking its best is no easy task, especially if you have kids and pets, yet no one wants to be embarrassed when company stops in for a visit. Having one of those homes where people always say “how does she do it” comes down to just a matter of the right routine and the right techniques.
Following the simple steps above will make a world of difference in the presentation of your home. You will go from having a house like the woman in my second example to the woman in the first. And if you want to get into the habit of always having a clean house faster I recommend reading “The Ultimate Guide to Speed Cleaning Secrets” where you will discover the secrets to cleaning your house faster and more effectively than you ever dared hope possible!

The house I grew up in was immaculate. Not a trace of dust anywhere. My mother’s secret: an hour of tidying up every morning. Dishes and plates were washed and dried immediately after every meal. Toys and games were never left just hanging around. And the amazing thing was none of this felt oppressive. As a child I felt completely free to rove and play all over the house. All the cleaning up seemed to be done through magic by an invisible hand. And this system in turn set my mother free and made her very relaxed. By noon every day she was ready to go out and take a walk and visit friends.
